You Asked, How to Get Identity Integration? GreyTower!

Integrated Identity Management

I just read a great article by Dave Kearns from Network World, called “Integrated Identity Management: How to Get It?” and I couldn’t help but think, 1. what a smart guy he must be and 2. and what a terrible job we’ve done in telling our story!

Until very recently, we have been telling the story of how to integrate Identity Management using SOA methods on GreyTower, which leverages power under the hood from MuleSoft but we never really spent much time on, why? After reading Dave’s article, he shed some light on a couple of the main points we are trying to portray.

In his article Dave writes “The "Best of Breed" label may be on its last legs. The problem is that no one can agree on what's best. As someone said, if there really could be an objective "Best of Breed" then we'd only have one religion and one political party! Instead, participants seemed to coalesce around the thought that what was important was that they have the services that they perceived were the ones they needed. The number of vendors delivering these services was irrelevant. More vendors require the more diligence on the end user's side to be sure that everything works together seamlessly with no holes, but the benefit of getting the right services outweighed the benefit of a single vendor providing better connectivity and "fit."

Right now in the identity management community, there seems to be a schism in what is considered best in class. How do you move forward if you don’t have a clear path to what the industry will do over the next 5 years.

We believe that with Identity Integration and Scale Out IDM methods, companies can tackle the Identity Services that are important now. By using SOA methods, we can help ensure that these methods are compatible in the future. Lastly, by using a Scale Out IDM model like GreyTower by Directory Services, Inc., you can help keep control of how much risk you must take at any one time, and how much budget must be spent.

GreyTower Identity Integration Server is an Identity Integration tool built on top of the world’s leading SOA platform from MuleSoft. We chose this platform to help ensure that it could handle the work load. MuleSoft handles SOA duties for some of the world’s largest companies, so we are comfortable our platform is up to the challenge. GreyTower is deployed in a scale out / modular fashion, and addresses identity services ad hoc.  It can also be deployed as an Identity Bridge or broker between best in class deployments.

I believe there is no silver bullet or pixie dust to address all the issues cited in Dave Kearns article, but  I believe GreyTower and Directory Services, Inc. is on the right track.
